The Aryans (Arian is something else--an early Christian heresy) were a hypothesized ancient people who spread the Indo-European language base through Eurasia. Contemporary descendents of this Northern tribal group are Northern Indians and Iranians (they are more often referred to as "Indo-Iranian tribes" in historical anthropology today). In the 19th century, however, European racial "science" (actually a form of racist rhetoric) invested these Eurasian peoples with a kind of mythic quality as "Nordic peoples" (you know, blonde, blue-eyed), which is almost certainly historically false. Hitler, et al., based their pseudo-history of the world as divided into the creators of culture (Aryans), the imitators of culture (Mediterraneans, Japanese), and the destroyers of culture (Blacks, Jews, etc.) using this source mythology. It is important to distinguish the historical Indo-Aryan/Indo-Iranian tribes from the elaborate mythology of the so-called "Aryan race." Anyone speaking non-ironically of the "Aryan race" today is either just uninformed, or, more likely, may be a white supremacist, and should probably just be disregarded or else viewed warily as potentially dangerous.
