Hey guys and girls,
Here are some idioms which I put them in sentences.
Can you guess the meanings
1- You are( a chip off the old 'black).
2-You have (a 'chip on your shoulder)
3-I am not going to( put my head on the block) for him
4-I have never spoken English in a group, but I will( give it a shot).
5-Don't you think that she is (jumping the gun)

1-a chip off old black :
it is an informal idiom which refers to a person who is very similar to his father or mother in the way that they look or behave
2-achip on your shoulder :
Also an informal idiom which means to be sensitive about something that happened in the past and become easily offended if it is mentioned because you think that you were treated unfairly
The meaning in Arabic is :
دائم الشعور بالسخط والظلامة
3-put my head on the block :
To risk losing your job, damaging your reputation ,etc. by doing or saying something
4-give it a shot :
An informal idiom which means an attempt to do something
5-jumping the gun:
Means to do something too soon , before the right time

I am really grateful for all what you have done, Pearls and Sorgul. Generally speaking, I would like to use the last two idioms a lot in my conversations whether with my friends or students.

well the first one and second I couldn't even guess
the third.. hmmm well I'd say not gonna give up!! not sure though
num. 4 of course means give it a try
5- I think its like rushing in before she suppose to.
actually I'm not that keen with the idiom thing!!
